Our History
Dauncey Construction Ltd. began in 1993 when Doug Dauncey started building homes in Shuswap Lake Estates and Salmon Arm. Throughout the 1990s, he developed a reputation for solid craftsmanship and dependable service. In 2002, Doug brought the company to Silver Star and the North Okanagan, where he continued to establish trusted relationships and deliver quality homes that suited the region’s unique landscape.
In 2018, Doug’s son, Joel, returned to the family business and now leads its day-to-day operations. With both generations working together, the company has continued to evolve while staying true to the values that shaped it from the beginning: care, communication, and a genuine commitment to building well.
Today, Dauncey Construction Ltd. remains proudly family-owned and operated by father and son, Doug and Joel. Both are licensed builders who bring hands-on experience and a shared dedication to doing things the right way. Our work is supported by trusted consultants and sub-trades, allowing us to guide each project from early design through to final completion with clarity and consistency.
Because we live and work at Silver Star, we understand the realities of building in an alpine climate. From choosing the right materials to planning for long-term durability, we design and build homes that feel comfortable, functional, and perfectly suited for mountain living.

The Caetani Cultural Centre is a not-for-profit cultural organization and registered heritage house.
Dauncey Construction was hired by the Caetani Cultural Centre in 2016 to complete a full renovation of a 4-bay carport into an 800 sq. ft. studio and exhibition display space.
We were very satisfied with the excellent quality of their work and use of good quality materials, and felt that the price was a fair one, with the work being completed in good time.
We hired the company again in 2018 to complete the insulation, fire suppression and drywalling of the basement area of the heritage house. Once again, their work was excellent and met or exceeded the standards that were required.
We would definitely recommend them for future projects and to other organizations, and support their application.

It is with pleasure that I write this reference for our builder Doug Dauncey, who is doing a major renovation of our ski chalet at SilverStar Ski Resort, which involved demolishing the upper level of a 3-storey home and adding an additional 2 new levels, resulting in a 4-storey home.
The project was very involved as the remaining 2 levels were guttered and the complete exterior finishes of the home removed as our instructions to Doug were that the completed result must look as a new home.
I understand the complexities that go with a project like this, as I am myself a builder in Australia, completing around 1000 homes per year, and supervising a major renovation is a lot more difficult than building a home from scratch.
Doug was recommended to me by one of the local companies in SilverStar, and I have found Doug to be an excellent builder who is methodical and very easy to work with. On various occasions, he has provided alternate options during construction that have made for a more appealing and functional home.
Both my wife and I are very happy to have Doug as our builder for our beautiful home. I am happy to expand on the above, should you wish to contact me.
